Meeting point at the Montalbano Tourism Office. The megalithic area of Argimusco, situated at 1,240 meters above sea level, represents a unique site in Sicily — compared by some scholars to the great megalithic structures of northern Europe, earning it the nickname “Sicilian Stonehenge.” The route, which winds along a dirt track, is characterized by imposing boulders of quartzose sandstone known as the Argimusco Megaliths, arranged along a southwest/northeast axis. These megaliths are likely the remains of a Neolithic cult site used for rituals related to life and death, as well as for archaeoastronomical studies.
From the plateau, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view that includes Tindari, the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Aeolian Islands, Rocca Novara, Capo Calavà, Milazzo, and Etna. To further enrich the experience, the visit to the Megaliths can be combined with a tour of the Historic Center of Montalbano Elicona or an excursion to the Malabotta Forest. This combination of history, nature, and spectacular landscapes makes Argimusco an unmissable destination for archaeology enthusiasts and for those seeking an immersive experience in the beauty and mystery of Sicily.
