The Montagnareale – Mulino di Capo and Usignolo Trail route offers a unique experience between nature and history. Located in Contrada Fiumara, about 3 kilometers from the village center, the trail runs alongside a small stream, allowing you to admire the typical riparian vegetation with poplars, alders, hazel groves, walnut trees, and Mediterranean scrub shrubs. The route leads to the characteristic Usignolo spring, where water flows directly from the rock.
Near the trail there is also an ancient antimony mine, now closed, which adds a historical element of interest to the excursion. Before or after the hike, a visit to the distinctive Mulino di Capo in Montagnareale is recommended — a horizontal waterwheel mill still in operation, offering a fascinating testament to ancient grain-milling techniques and representing a piece of the local cultural heritage.
This itinerary not only allows you to immerse yourself in an environment of great natural beauty, but also offers a journey through time via the historical traces of the territory, making it a complete and enriching experience.
