Capo Milazzo is among the most scenically and naturally captivating places in the province of Messina, thanks to its position on the Tyrrhenian Sea facing the Aeolian Islands, and the remarkable interplay between Mediterranean vegetation and the coastal marine environment. The excursion begins from the Piazzetta Sant’Antonio, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the bay of the same name. After a brief visit to the rock-cut church of Sant’Antonio, the nature trail winds its way to the extreme tip of the Cape, crossing a centuries-old olive grove near the Capo Milazzo lighthouse.

The trail is characterized by lush Mediterranean vegetation composed of mastic, wild olive, spurge, and artemisia, extending to just steps from the sea. Continuing along a stairway, you finally reach the evocative natural pool of the Portella, commonly known as the “Piscina di Venere” (Venus Pool), carved by the erosion of sea waves on the clifftop.

In this enchanting setting, we will stop for a pleasant break, offering the opportunity for a refreshing swim. Resuming our walk, we will return to the starting point at Piazzetta Sant’Antonio in time to admire the sunset. This route not only offers a magnificent panoramic view, but also allows you to immerse yourself in the unspoiled beauty of Mediterranean nature and discover a hidden corner of paradise at Capo Milazzo.

Recommended excursion kit: hiking or sports shoes, drinking water, sunscreen, and a hat. For those who wish to swim in the sea, water/reef sandals and a snorkel mask are strongly recommended to best appreciate the seabed.
