Meeting point at Piazza Martino n°8, at the bar-pizzeria Ritrovo Rhodis, then transfer by car to the starting point of the excursion. Departing from the locality of Santa Venera del Bosco, we will walk along the riverbed and banks of the Floresta stream — one of the tributaries of the Patrì torrent. Following a trail that climbs the hillside, we will reach an ancient rural settlement of the “Buscaini della Foresta di Zafarana” community — a place that bears witness to a time when these lands were inhabited by people living in harmony with the surrounding natural environment.

Continuing along the trail, we will cross several streams and admire a large group of Oriental plane trees — a rare tree species that thrives along watercourses. Immersed among the forest trees, we will have the opportunity to discover many plant species typical of our woodlands and can also listen to the song of various bird species such as the wren, the blackcap, the great spotted woodpecker, and the jay — birds characteristic of these habitats. With a little luck, we may also spot animals such as foxes and tortoises.

A brief detour — with a packed lunch first under the plane trees — will allow us to admire a centuries-old downy oak of gigantic proportions, considered one of the botanical patriarchs of the Peloritani Mountains. Returning to the main downhill trail, we will head back to the starting point, concluding the excursion. Finally, a tasting of local products will be served, combining nature with the flavors of the land — making this an ideal route for those who wish to immerse themselves in nature and discover the historical and biological richness of the Zafarana Forest. Costs include guide service, organization, and insurance. Children under 12 years of age participate free of charge.
