The excursion in the Marinello Lakes Nature Reserve departs from the Marinello Village and offers an immersive nature experience, guided by experts. The route is flat and follows a network of tracks winding through the broad lagoon beach, which today is home to four small lakes. Located between the majestic rocky ridge of the Tindari promontory and the Tyrrhenian Sea, this nature reserve is a true gem combining sea, rocks, lakes, beaches, and cliffs in a unique and fascinating environment.

The reserve is characterized by three types of vegetation: lacustrine, rupestral, and coastal. This floral diversity includes endemic species that contribute to making the landscape even more special. Among the plants that can be observed, the lakeside vegetation is represented by reeds and rushes, while the cliff vegetation includes resilient plants such as broom and spurge. The beach vegetation is composed of species adapted to salt and wind.

The wildlife of the reserve is equally varied and interesting. Several endemic fish species live in the lakes, while the birdlife is particularly rich thanks to the reserve’s strategic position along migratory routes. Both resident and migratory bird species can be spotted, including: the greater flamingo, the common raven, the peregrine falcon, the subalpine warbler, the white stork, the common kestrel, and the Sardinian warbler.

Furthermore, the reserve offers spectacular birdwatching opportunities, especially during the major migrations, when the variety and number of birds present increases significantly.
