The nature trail along the San Basilio Stream offers a fascinating exploration through a landscape shaped by water erosion, which has sculpted the Mesozoic rocks to create the spectacular Catafurco Waterfall. Along the route, you cross the ancient rural hamlet of Molisa — a village of great ethno-anthropological value. Here, you can see the traditional shepherds’ shelters known as “pagghiari,” built with dry-stone masonry and covered with bundles of Spanish broom (Spartium junceum).
Continuing uphill, you reach the Catafurco Waterfall — a magnificent natural waterfall with a drop of approximately 20 meters along the course of the stream. At the base of the waterfall, the waters gather in a natural hollow known as the Marmitta dei Giganti (Giant’s Cauldron), forming a natural pool perfect for a refreshing break.
Discover the San Basilio Stream nature trail all the way to the spectacular Catafurco Waterfall, passing through the ancient rural hamlet of Molisa with its shepherds’ shelters. Admire the 20-meter natural waterfall and the Marmitta dei Giganti — a hollow that forms an evocative natural pool — for a unique experience immersed in Sicilian nature.
