Our loop itinerary starts from the picturesque hamlet of Santa Croce — a district of Castroreale renowned for the famous Biscotto Castriciano. We will cross stretches of Mediterranean scrub and forests of oak, chestnut, and pine, until we reach the summit of Tre Pizzi. From here, the viewpoint offers a breathtaking view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with the splendid Aeolian Islands on the horizon.
After admiring the panorama from the top of Tre Pizzi, we will begin the descent back to the starting point, stopping to visit the famous Grotta dell’Eremita — known for its remarkable limestone formations. We then continue towards Piano Margi, a large recreational area created by the forestry service, equipped with benches, tables, and fire pits around a charming artificial lake, where we will stop for a packed lunch.
The first part of the route mainly involves climbs, while the final descent will bring us back to the refuge where the cars are parked. This hiking and trekking itinerary in Sicily offers an experience rich in spectacular panoramas and natural beauty — perfect for adventure and nature lovers who want to explore Castroreale and Tre Pizzi.
