The excursion begins with the “Sentiero Tematico del Carbone” (Charcoal Thematic Trail), created by the Nebrodi Park Authority. This educational path recreates the various charcoal production processes practiced by the ancient charcoal burners of the area — a fascinating journey into the past that offers an immersion into the historical traditions of the territory.

Continuing, you cross a beech-dominated forest for approximately 1.5 km until you reach the entrance to the Tassita — one of the most significant areas of the park. Here you can admire a dense concentration of Taxus baccata (English yew) — an evergreen tree of great ecological and historical significance. This forest also hosts other species such as maples, hollies, and dog rose, creating a rich and diverse habitat.

The trail is easy to follow and well signposted, with informative panels describing the main naturalistic features encountered along the route. This makes the excursion suitable for everyone, including families and nature enthusiasts who want to discover the biodiversity of the Nebrodi Park.

Additionally, the excursion can be combined with a guided visit to the historic center of Caronia or Capizzi. Caronia, with its Norman castle and ancient churches, offers an interesting window into Sicilian medieval history. Capizzi, on the other hand, is known for its artistic and cultural heritage, with numerous historic buildings and local traditions.
