Our horseback riding excursions depart from the riding school Alcantara Horse Riding and take place entirely in the heart of the Alcantara River Park — an unspoiled natural area of extraordinary environmental and scenic interest. Astride our trusted horses, you will have the opportunity to discover an authentic corner of paradise, carefully preserved.

Departing from our base in the evocative territory of Castiglione di Sicilia, we venture along ancient country tracks until we reach the banks of the Alcantara river. Depending on the season, we cross the river multiple times, following exclusive routes that allow you to admire ancient lava flows shaped by the action of water over the centuries — creating forms and colors of incomparable beauty. The landscape that accompanies us throughout the journey is a mosaic of vegetation ranging from typical riverside scenery to lush farmland.

During the excursion, we make a brief stop at the celebrated Byzantine Cuba — a small church in lava stone and brick dating to the 6th–7th century. Built in the height of the Byzantine period, this Greek-cross structure with arabesque domes, triple-arched windows, and a distinctive Eastern style rises among the countryside like a true cathedral in the desert. This architectural gem is one of Sicily’s “hidden” masterpieces. We then visit the fascinating small gorges of Castiglione.
