Departure | Giardini Naxos
The excursion on Etna and through the Alcantara Gorges is an unforgettable experience offering a combination of nature, culture, and adventure. Pick-up in Giardini Naxos, from where the off-road tour begins with a climb to 1,000 meters, where the landscape changes dramatically, offering breathtaking views of birch trees, pines, cherry trees, olive groves, and vineyards. Continuing along the Mare Neve regional road, you’ll reach the Etna Nord refuge at 2,000 meters, from where you venture onto the hidden trails of the Sartorius craters up to 2,200 meters.
After exploring the Sartorius Mountains, fully equipped with technical gear you’ll visit a lava tube cave — a safe and fascinating speleological immersion. The morning concludes with a break for a traditional lunch in a chalet nestled in the pine forest. In the afternoon, the tour moves on to discover the Alcantara Valley, passing through the medieval village of Castiglione di Sicilia to reach the famous Alcantara Gorges — a canyon formed 8,000 years ago by the river’s erosion of basalt rock. This full-day tour offers a unique and well-organized sensory experience, immersed in the natural and cultural landscapes of Sicily.
